TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP 2005-06

Aberdeen and North of Scotland Heats

December 2005

Three sections of the SJC Teams Championship, P5 and Under, Primary, and Secondary, were held at Northfield Academy on Saturday 3^rd December 2005.

An excellent total of 28 teams of 4 competed, 112 players, including teams from Morayshire and Speyside. As a result of the keen interest being shown by our northern neighbours, we are looking closely at the feasibility of staging an individual event in Moray this season, with a distinct possibility of holding an additional northern national teams’ heat in 2006-07

There were clear winners of the Secondary and Primary sections. St Machar ‘A’ recorded wins in all their games in the Secondary Section, as did Robert Gordon’s ‘A’ in the Primary Section.

The decisive result was the final round match between Middlefield and Holy Family, which saw Middlefield emerge as heat winners, and unfortunately eliminate their opponents. The Holy Family team emerge with great credit however, as they were playing in their first tournament, having been playing together for only two months.

However, it was a completely different story in the P5 and Under event, which went ‘to the wire’. The result was in doubt until the very last game had finished, and with 5 teams in contention going in to the last round, tie-break procedures were required to separate four teams.

The qualifiers from the heats were:

Secondary: St Machar Academy (now play in the final 4, April 2006)

Primary: Robert Gordon’s; Smithfield; Muirfield; Quarryhill (now play in second round heats in February 2006)

P5 & Under: Middlefield; Quarryhill; Tullos; Cornhill (now play in final 8 in April 2006: top two teams from morning heats play an all-play-all in the afternoon to decide 2005-06 final Championship places)
