Smithfield Team in Dunkeld, May 2005

Gail and Samantha both had a fantastic 2004/05 season in individual and teams events.

The girls played boards 1 and 2 for the Smithfield Primary School team that won the N.E. Evening Express Trophy, and finished 3rd in the Scottish Junior Chess Primary Teams Championship. Both girls were also part of the Aberdeen Chess Academy girl’s team that won the Scottish Girls Primary Team Championship for the fourth successive year.

In individual events, Gail was the first player to win the Ramsay Milne Trophy, while Samantha was awarded the Aberdeen Chess Academy ‘Player of the Year’ trophy. They also qualified for the final of the SJC ‘Chess for Kicks’ event at Hampden Park Glasgow, and both players represented Smithfield Primary in The Lord Provost’s Cup in the Town House.

Samantha was the Smithfield pupil representing Aberdeen in Regensburg, Germany, as part of the 50th Twin City Anniversary celebrations between the two cities.
