The Evening Express Trophy
Report by Samantha George

On 7th May 2005 at Northfield
Academy, myself, Gail Rennie, Lewis Sharp, and Dylan Cameron
represented Smithfield Primary School in the N.E. Primary Schools
Chess Championships ‘Evening Express’ Trophy.
We were playing against schools like Quarryhill,
Muirfield etc. This tournament was one of the toughest tournaments
that our teams played in but it was one of the best also. We fought
hard throughout the competition as we really wanted to win this as
Smithfield School had never won it before
At last it came down to the final game and a
wave of silence hit the room as it was all down to this game. When
we won it, it was great, we all got a trophy for ourselves and we
got the Evening Express Trophy for our school and got our school
name engraved on it instead of Quarryhill or Robert Gordons – IT WAS
GREAT!
