Mastrick councillor Ramsay Milne has been a
staunch supporter of local junior chess for ten years. In 1996, he
formally launched Quarryhill Junior Chess Club. Soon, a plethora of
young chess stars began to emerge from the club, and over the next
few years, no fewer than 30 players were selected to play for
Scotland.

The inaugural tournament attracted more than 40
competitors. The event was keenly contested throughout, and required
a play-off to determine the winner.
