The Aberdeen heats of the popular
Scottish Junior Chess ‘Chess for Kicks’ tournaments take
place at Northfield Academy on Saturday 21st
January 2006.
Eight heats take place in various
locations across the country from autumn 2005 until spring
2006. Each heat comprises of three sections: Primary 5 and
under players only; P6/7 players only; and a third section
confined to secondary pupils. There is a big incentive to do
well in these heats as the top three (it could be more in
some circumstances) from EVERY section of every heat qualify
for a free entry into the grand final being staged again at
Scotland’s national stadium, Hampden Park, Glasgow.
Following last year’s excellent performances by local
players (1-2-3 in the P5 Section!) we are hoping to do
equally well this year.
Competitors can play in as many heats
as they wish. Around 30 locally based players competed in
the Dundee event at Dens Park football stadium in November,
and some have already qualified for the finals.
This is the fourth of the eight heats,
with the first three heats attracting a total of close on
300 entries

we are hopeful of a bumper N.E. turnout.
