Aberdeen Chess Academy was strongly represented in the finals of the SJC Teams Championships, held in the Beatrix Potter Centre, Dunkeld. Quarryhill Primary School, who won the Primary Teams title in 2004/05, again made it to the four-team, all-play-all final, but having finished 1st equal, they were denied by their tie-break bogey. For the third time in five years, Quarryhill lost out on a Scottish Teams title on a game points tie-break, which is similar to goal difference in football. However, the young Bothwell Primary team from Glasgow showed great fighting spirit in the final round to come back from 0 – 2 to tie the match with Quarryhill, and secure the draw which made them SJC Champions.
The Primary 5 and Under Teams final consisted of eight teams. The teams were placed in two groups of four for the morning session in an all-play all format, and in the afternoon the top two teams from the morning qualifiers played a knock-out session to determine the first four places. Jordanhill were worthy P5 Team Champions, winning every match in both morning and afternoon sessions. Best of the local teams were Tullos Primary and Cornhill Primary. The Tullos players all played well in the finals, and deservedly finished in a highly creditable 3rd place. Cornhill also played well to qualify for the afternoon final, finishing fourth overall.
