The Northeast heat
of the first ever S.J.C. Novice Chess Championships, sponsored by BG
Group, takes place on Saturday November 11 at Northfield Academy. It
will be the first of five heats to take place throughout Scotland during
the season.
This event is for
Primary Schools pupils who are new, or fairly new to chess. It is
designed to encourage young players to experience the fun of tournament
chess at a level that is not too daunting to any participant.
It is thought that
this could develop into the biggest of all Scottish national
tournaments.

There are also
separate heats for older students, the S.J.C. 600 Chess Championships
also taking place at Northfield on 11 Nov.
The SJC 600 event
is restricted to Secondary or Primary 7 School students who are new, or
fairly new to tournament chess. It is designed to encourage youth
players to experience tournament chess at a level up to Scottish Grade
600.
Qualifiers from this event also receive invites to compete in the final
at Murrayfield. |
