ACA DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP

The Second Aberdeen Chess Academy Doubles Championship has been won by The Unconventionals – Steven Dunbar (Middlefield Primary) and Maryann McDonald (Aberdeen Grammar). They won the title after winning a very tense and closely contested final against MK Dons – Michael Adam and Karthick Kumar (both St Machar Academy).

A total of 23 teams took part in this years’ event, which is the only Doubles Championship in Scotland. Winners of the most interesting name were Chickmates (Emma McIntosh and Clare Fordyce, both Muirfield Primary).

The tournament was played as a knock-out event. Eliminated teams then played Aberdeen Chess Academy League games. At present there are three divisions of the league, with a fourth to be added in January 2007 for first season players.
